
It's a split perspective where you see multiple Rebels trying to create escape plans and then Rey dealing with a tired old man. Past events and the years have left their mark upon on the old Jedi master. This is then opposed by the work Rey is doing in order to sway Luke Skywalker back into the fold.

The First Order has the Resistance on their last legs and it's really all about working towards finishing them off. The entire narrative is driven by parties of desperate individuals that are just attempting to flee.

The film takes place immediately after the events of "The Force Awakens: and instead of presenting us with some intense battle across the cosmos it's just an escape. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is completely unique in that it's part of a franchise with lots of pressure, reoccurring events and does something entirely new with it.
